How Belgrave Heights stays connected and under budget

At Belgrave Heights Christian School, IT Manager David Wilson is responsible for managing the computer and communications infrastructure for about 90 staff members and 575 students. Like most educational institutions, Belgrave Heights works with a tight budget and a small staff to provide reliable, secure networking tools to support the school’s faculty and students.

Teachers are busy at Belgrave Heights, and they tend to work after hours writing reports, preparing educational materials and grading papers. Before Pertino, teachers had to be on campus to access network files and resources. David wanted to change that, but with a limited budget and major security concerns, it was going to be a tall order.

Hoping to side-step the complexity and expense of traditional VPN, David decided to try cloud-based services like LogMeIn and Hamachi. He tested them out and soon realized these services couldn't provide the efficiency and broad functionality he needed. Next, David picked the brains of his peers in the Spiceworks online IT community, and came across Pertino. David downloaded the Pertino app for free and deployed a fully functional network in minutes.

With so much critical personal information on file, David needed to make sure Pertino could provide the level of security he needed. He gave some of the school's most exceptional students some packet-sniffing tools and told them to hack into LogMeIn, Hamachi and Pertino. The advanced students found holes in Hamachi and LogMeIn, but they couldn't break through Pertino.

The test made all the difference for David, who now uses cloud networking to provide remote printing, file access and a host of other necessities for Belgrave Heights' busy teachers. According to David, Pertino works seamlessly whether staff members are working on-site, from home, or at the local coffee shop. And since Pertino's device-based monthly pricing is "school-friendly," Belgrave Heights can meet its networking needs while staying within budget.
