SpiceWorld 2013 – A Wild Ride

SpiceWorld booth

Pertino was founded to democratize IT with a simple, powerful, and affordable networking solution for small and medium sized businesses. And because of this, the Spiceworks community of over 2.7 million IT professionals was a natural fit.

Last week, at the SpiceWorld annual conference, we launched the latest release of our Cloud Network Engine service and our new website.  The response we received made those late nights worth it.  Hundreds of Spiceheads lined up at our booth to learn about Pertino, and the feedback we heard went like this: “Wow, I’ve never seen anything like this.  I need to give this a try when I get home.”

This is especially cool because IT professionals are a pretty skeptical bunch.  They’ve been burned by new products before.  They are the ones ‘holding the bag’ when products or services do not meet their needs, and they take the calls when an end user can’t get to the files and applications they need to do their job. Based on the conversations I had, IT pros not only see Pertino as a way to cost effectively connect their mobile workers, but also as a way to reduce help desk calls and questions.  Since we offer a free version for three devices, there isn’t a lot to lose!

While the warm booth reception was wonderful, the audience in our breakout session was overwhelming.  Craig Elliott (co-founder/CEO), Scott Hankins (co-founder/CTO), and Chris Webber (Product Manager) delivered a fun and interactive live demo for a standing-room only crowd of 150+.  Craig and Chris ran through the process of building and managing a Pertino network using the new Pertino management interface.  As they did, Scott Hankins chimed in with a chalk talk session describing the behind-the-scenes software-defined networking (SDN) technology that powers the Pertino service.  A little cheesy?  Certainly, but several attendees told us this was the best session of the entire conference. (We agree, but hey, we’re biased).

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that our own Josh Grose won a Spicies Award – The Advisor. This award reflects Josh’s commitment to helping IT pros in the community get the answers they need to do their jobs.  Congratulations Josh!

Let’s not even discuss the after-parties.  I’m only glad that no one was hurt drinking the flaming Dr. Peppers…

If you have not yet seen our new cloud management console, I encourage you go to and register for our free offer—three devices, securely connected, forever.

Counting down the days to SpiceWorld 2014.
